Lymphedema

Lymphedema is a Chronic condition which can be present from birth (primary) or develop as a result of trauma to the Lymphatic system (secondary). Secondary lymphedema can develop after removal of lymph nodes from the armpit or groin in the treatment of Cancers such as breast, gynaecological, bladder or melanoma.

Meabhdh is trained by CASLE in partnership with MacMillan Cancer Support in the management of Secondary Lymphedema here at Able Bodies Physiotherapy. Management of Lymphedema may include;

  • Bandaging
  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage
  • Education
  • Compression garments
  • Exercise
